The factory tour was very interesting. It lasted approx 1 1/2 hrs and we wish it was longer in order to watch the assembly more closely. The line, however, seemed to be at half-speed with the workers looking worn down from all the press. The visitors count was way off but the surrounding businesses treated all the visitors like royalty. The museum was wonderful, with the right mix of history and concept cars.

The high point of the trip was a run on the famous "Tail of the Dragon" in TN along the Smokies. It is 11 miles long and has 318 curves. I went flat out in 2nd gear, with my speed varying between 15-60 mph and when finished (at Deal's Gap), I could hardly hold my cup of coffee with my hands shaking from the adrenalin-pumping ride. We were warned about the police (due to all the accidents) and the crowds but, believe it or not, we saw NO police and only came up to one other car (a Mini Cooper that promptly got out of the way).
Right near there is the start of the 500-mile long Blue Ridge Parkway which is an absolute delight to drive. This road leads into the Skyline Drive in VA which has its share of twisties (along with a lot of deer). We ended up getting an average of 26 mpg which I thought was fantastic - no doubt because of the very high 6th gear on the highway. Hope to see everyone soon. Many thanks to Genine and Karen who felt sorry for me not having any decorations and giving me deer nose and antlers and Christmas ribbons. We had 14 cars and everyone was in a festive mood. Nice. I also had a "feel good" feeling watching all the people who were participating and getting ready for the parade. There were a couple of other car clubs, T-birds, Nash Ramlbers and even a real old race car (driver and navigator). There were horse and carriages, mummers, country western group, drum and bugle corp, Irish dancers, Truman High School Marching Band. It still amazes me to see all these people getting together to provide enjoyment to the community.

DRIVE OR SHOW? by Frank G.

While at Peddlers Village on October 11th, I was invited to attend a Cruise Night at Lowes on Rt 611 and Street Rd that was held this past Saturday Night. There were lots of Vettes there along with free hot dogs! While there, I was asked if I would like to attend a foliage run being held the next day. Since I bought my Corvette to drive it, more than display it, I accepted the invite.

The next day Liz and I showed up at the staging area, a Giant Food Market at Rt 113 and Rt 309, at about an hour before the scheduled disembarkment. At least 50 Corvettes (and we counted them, folks) showed up. This was only our second such run, the first being LRCC last year. It was very well organized with written directions given to each vehicle featuring turns and attractions laid out by mileage.

We zeroed our trip odometer at about 1pm and fell into line as the 19th car. The afternoon was spent weaving our way through the back roads of Pennsylvania, all the while observing the beautiful colors of the season. The 50 mile route had 2 regrouping stops worked into it and it was quite impressive seeing 50 Corvettes pulling onto a very long shoulder of the road. After the first regroup we all took off again to the next regroup and then finally to our destination which was some sort of "Steam Fest" in Bangor Pa above Easton. Food with an Oktoberfest feel was offered along with displays of dozens of steam driven machines performing assorted tasks. Directions were given to us to get back to Rt 611 so we could leave whenever we wanted which was around 4pm for Liz and I.

Like I said before, if you like driving your Vette more than showing it, then you would have thoroughly enjoyed this event. Hope to stumble across more of these next season.

ORIGINAL GARDEN STATE CORVETTE CLUB & IRON HILL BREWERY SHOWS

Blog by Frank G.
October 4th - Ed Proctor and myself met at 8am in Newtown to go to the Original Garden State Corvette Club show in Haddon Heights. After a spirited ride down Rt 295 we arrived at a Main Street already full of Corvettes. The OGSCC had a great set up for a "street" type show. All the Vettes were parked diagonally down one side of the street while all the vendor canopies were set up on the other side of the street. This way the guys (and some of the gals) could oogle over the cars at the same time the gals (and some of the guys) could shop the different vendors. It was the best of both worlds. The weather was great and so were the crowds. There were 4 or 5 blocks of continuous activity. Trophies were awarded around 4pm and of course the ol' "IKATCHR" took home another piece of bling. I am getting pretty tired of parking next to Proctor at these shows. He takes home hardware while I take home butt prints on my car from people leaning against it while looking at his!!

October 5th - Eddie Proctor was losing his shirt to relatives from D.C. at an Eagles-Redskins function and couldn't make the trip to the Iron Hill Brewery. Liberty was well represented with the Mitchells, Hindles, Caritas, Ed Z and wife, Ivan and guest, "Doc" Martin, and myself. This show was a "parking lot" format and a real attempt was made at parking the Corvettes by generation. While things started out somewhat organized by the end of the day the parking got a little disheveled, the judging went on past 4pm, and the door prizes and 50/50 tickets got all screwed up. Door prizes ended up being given out to whoever was standing near the bandstand. On a positive note the weather was great and there was plenty of Corvette conversation between many of the participants. Members got to show off new additions to their cars. The most impressive was the Ralph and Peg's "Lambo doors" which drew lots and lots of attention. Guess who I was parked next to? Again with the butt marks. Doc had new exhausts, I had new seats, Mitchells new mats. Trophy time came a little late but we had some winners. The Carita's won in modified C5 and Best Interior. The Hindles, whose name was butchered by the presenter, took home best stock C4. But the topper was the yellow Ed Z car which garnered Best In Show!!

Funkanah

It had been a while since Carole and I have been able to get out to an event and considering that Ron had set up the Funkanah at ReedmanToll it was too close to not go. We got there right before things started and I was really planning to only take photos but Ron asked if I would join up with MaryFran as she didn't have a team mate. Carole preferred to take it easy so I became MaryFran's partner and Carole took photos. LRCC had a good group of people and the events were fun to do. MaryFran drove and I was passenger (something that I haven't been in the Vette). So we were off trying the frisbie throw (I missed), paper airplane throw (missed that too), putting ball on pole and then putting a ring on top of that (almost made all of them), softball dropping in basket (made those), hula hoop roll (made that too). Hot day, cool games, good time :) Nice time with MaryFran (good driver). Ron won't tell us the final scores until the Holiday Party. Bummer.

Welcome!

Welcome to LRCC's latest venture...Blogging.
Our club has been involved in various activities and it certainly would be interesting to hear your views about participating in them.
